This is a Kastor & Bros, 'Kastor' N°1150. vintage straight razor from Germany which has been fitted and customized with blue Paua LVS scales. This is 100% real Paua shell with a black backing and durable and maintenance free topcoat acrylic layer. Tapered with a G10 Jade Ghost wedge.
The blade has been cleaned, satin finished and looks extremely clean with no rust, cracks, chips or disturbing stains.
Spine has normal hone wear
The blade's width 5/8 - Straight end
Grind: 3/4 Hollow
Shoulder: 1 stabilizer
Bottom of tang have jimp.
Total weight: 1.3 oz
Total cutting edge: 2.70 inches
On the front shank it says: Kastor
On the back it says: A. Kastor & Bros N°1150 Germany
Both front and rear markings are still present and readable.
Blade centers nicely between the scales and sits very snug.
This razor dates somewhere from between 1876 - 1902
A. KASTOR & BROS New York City Trademarks used: "Imperial Razor Company", four-leaf clover, "XLNT", "K & Co GERMANY", and others.
About 1901, Kastor & Bros purchased the Camillus Knife Company of Camillus, New York. They changed the name in 1902 to the Camillus Cutlery Co.
In 1947, the name Kastor was dropped completely, although they are still in business as Camillus. ca. 1876 - 1947I
