ROBESON SHUREDEGE - MADE IN U.S.A. - 6/8 - 1/2 HOLLOW - 16-C-250
This is an extremely nice vintage straight razor in excellent condition.
The Shumate razor has been fitted and customized with Abalone LVS scales. This is 100% real Abalone shell with a black backing and topcoat acrylic layer. Has been tapered with a G10 Hunter Orange wedge.
Blade looks really good. The tang has some leftover bluing which was nicely polished up with a few remaning spots left. The original dimpels (hammer marks) on the hand hammered tang are still somewhat visible.
The hammer marks being left on the tang of each razor was to show they were each actually hand hammered on an anvil closing the pores of the steel in a uniform and thorough manner conducive to a perfect shaving edge.
The razor has at times the tendency to close off center. No a real issue. If it does happen just gently pull the blade the opposite side.
The blade measures just a tad under 6/8 - square point
Has been cleaned and buffed to a mirror polish.
On the front shank it says: Robeson Shuredge - Rochester, N.Y.
On the monkey tail it says: 16-C-250 (which is the model number)
Beautiful example of a Robeson Shuredge 16-C-250 made in USA
Robeson apparently established his first cutlery business in Elmira, New York in 1879. Beginning in 1885, items were marked with "ROBESON CUTLERY Co.
