This is a very nice looking vintage razor.
Comes with the original black scales in extremely nice condition.
The blade is extremely shiny, clean with no rust, cracks, chips.
Barely a few noticeable tiny spot marks on the spine and blade. Doesn't affect anything.
Beautiful preserved engraving on the blade.
Blade holds a very sharp edge.
Easy to hone and maintain.
Blade has been cleaned and polished.
The blade measures 9/16 - spike point which can be rounded at buyer's choice.
On the front shank it says: Diamond Edge Nr.9
On the back it says: Shapleigh Hdwe, Co.St Louis, Made in Germany
The bottom part of the shank has ribbed jimps.
Blade centers perfect and pins are very tight.
Very nice condition and an extremely nice example of a Shapleigh Hardware Co. - St Louis.
SHAPLEIGH HARDWARE COMPANY, ST. LOUIS, MO c 1843-1960 The Shapleigh Hardware Company was founded in St. Louis, MO in 1843 and could be considered the “Home Depot” of their day. They contracted with various firms, both domestic and foreign, to make their knives. All Shapleigh knives were noted for their quality and their durability. Their best known trademarks are “Shapleigh’s”, “Diamond Edge”, and “DE”. In 1940, they purchased the E.C. Simmons Hardware Company, also of St. Louis. The company closed in 1960 and sold their remaining stock to Val Test Distributors of Chicago.
