WADE & BUTCHER - SHEFFIELD - 9/16 - NEAR WEDGE to 1/4 Hollow
This is a gorgeous looking vintage razor.
The custom made scales are made of Micarta Faux Ivory w/Acrylic bone wedge
The blade is extremely shiny, clean with no rust, cracks or chips.
Just some barely noticeable residual stains and pits on the blade which doesn't affect anything.
Blade holds no hone wear to speak off.
The marking on the tang are pretty much gone. This was needed in order to remove all of the original blemishes and stains.
Blade has been cleaned and polished.
The blade measures 9/16 - barber's notch
On the front shank it used to say: Wade & Butcher Sheffield (barely faintly visible)
Width: 9/16
Grind: Near wedge to 1/4 hollow - barbers notch
Total weight: 2.1 Oz
Total cutting edge: 2.80 inches
Pins/Washers: Nickel silver and stainless steel
Extremely nice example of a Wade & Butcher.
Successor to Robert Wade; succeeded by Butcher, Brown & Butcher Sheffield - 1818-1890.
This razor dates from before 1890 since from 1890 the word 'England' had to be added to the inscription on the tang. I believe this one to be from around 1850.
