UFC 65 - Bad Intentions
And what a night. OMG! George St Pierre became the UFC Welterweight champion of the world after beating Matt Hughes in the second round after a high kick and throwing some nasty ground and pound elbows and blows. Matt Hughes didn’t see this coming. George St Pierre was and is in his best shape ever. I feel sorry for Matt but he just wasn’t prepared or he just didn’t expect to get such a fearsome opponent. I’m sure he’ll be back for a rematch but it’s going to be a tough one. George is just a much better all rounded fighter. Excellent standing up and on the ground. Respect to both champs. To be continued…
Congratulations George!
Tim “The Mainiac” Sylvia remained heavyweight champion of the world against Jeff “The Snowman” Monson but it took a full 5 rounds of 5 minutes each. Both fighters were truly exhausted, especially Jeff. Jeff Monson managed to get Tim to the ground several times but could just not get past Tim’s guard. It was very close at times and besides from nearly tearing my sweater to pieces out of frustration and excitement the fight ended in a booing crowd. That’s something I never understood. This is not a soccer game. Most people just don’t have a clue the physical, pschycological, mental and intense energy those fights can take out of a fighter. Being a kickboxer myself I can tell you. It takes a lot of guts, cohones, endurance and skills to go and fight 5 rounds totaling 25 minutes. You’ve gotta be or a pro, crazy, fearsome, skilled, criminal or devoted to the sport in such extreme that you could get beaten up pretty hard and just love it. Just look at Forest Griffen. This guy just loves to throw punches, beat and get beaten up. All with a big smile on his face. Respect. I would love to see all those booing people staying alive in the ring for 1 round.
Anyway, I respect all these guys. It takes hard work to get in the UFC and become a true fighter and legend. Even if you get your ass whooped.
I can’t wait for my all time favorite Tito Ortiz to fight for the light heavyweight belt against Chuck Liddell December 30th at the MGM Grand garden arena in Las Vegas.
